Forest Investment Associates (FIA) promotes and practices sustainable forestry and high environmental standards for stewardship of lands we manage. We believe it is our responsibility to maintain the long-term viability of the forest while managing our clients' timberland for competitive financial returns. We use environmentally sensitive forest conservation practices and silvicultural techniques that enhance timber production while conserving soil, water and wildlife.
- Best Management Practices – Our forest management operations meet or exceed voluntary Best Management Practices (BMPs) for water quality management in every state in which we manage timberland. In addition, we comply with all local, state and federal laws and regulations governing water and environmental quality as they relate to timberland management.
- Environmental and Management Control Documents – We have developed and implemented a set of Environmental and Management Control Documents to ensure conformance with our environmental policies. These documents are a key part of our overall management system and address organizational structure, planning, responsibilities, practices, procedures, processes and resources for developing, implementing, achieving, reviewing and maintaining the Environmental Policy.
- Commitment to sustainable forestry – We are a leader in promoting and practicing sustainable forestry. Targeted FIA properties are third-party certified under either the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) or Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) forest certification programs. We also adhere to the American Forest Foundation’s Standards of Sustainability for Forest Certification on Private Lands on many client properties. These programs are among the world’s most stringent standards for sustainable forestry. We continually review our certification programs in order to optimize the relationship between environmental stewardship and financial returns. In addition, as a member of the National Alliance of Forest Owners (NAFO), FIA fully subscribes to the NAFO member Commitment to Sustainable Forest Management.
