Barkley Yancey is a Client Accountant for Forest Investment Associates (FIA). Barkley joined FIA in 2020 and is responsible for the accounting for all of FIA’s commingled funds and multiple separate client accounts.
Previous Experience
Before joining FIA, Barkley spent 4.5 years in public accounting at Frazier and Deeter, LLC. During her time at Frazier and Deeter, Barkley worked with clients from a wide range of industries, where she was first introduced to accounting for the timber industry.
What is your business philosophy?
With integrity, hard work, gratitude, and passion for what you do, anything is possible. I believe the best way to build a strong business is to embrace and foster a culture based on these ideals and to continually strive to better serve your clients.
Why did you choose this field / career path?
Math was always my favorite subject in school. I enjoyed solving equations and getting to a concrete answer. When choosing what to study in my further education, accounting was the perfect mixture of problem solving and valuable life lessons, such as budgeting and finance. I love the outdoors and am fortunate enough to get to help my dad with his woodworking projects. Being in the forestry industry has allowed me to combine my love for the outdoors, fascination with different species of timber and my interest in accounting.
What is one of the best lessons you’ve learned during your career?
The best lesson I have learned is the importance of effective communication. Effective communication leads to effective teamwork which leads to innovation and greater success for everyone.
