Since joining FIA in 2016, Nick has provided timberland valuation, market analysis, and decision support as a member of the Real Estate Transactions Team. As Director, Valuation and Planning, he is responsible for all facets of the acquisitions process including identifying and screening opportunities, underwriting, due diligence, as well as supporting the Portfolio Management Team with implementing operations on acquired properties. Nick is based out of FIA’s Vancouver, Washington office and works on projects wherever client capital is focused.

Previous Experience

Nick started his career as a Forester with Longview Timber Corporation and worked on company tree farms in both Oregon and Washington. Later he served as Forest Analyst and was directly involved in maintaining the company’s forest information systems, strategic harvest planning, as well as small tract acquisitions and dispositions.

What is your business philosophy?

Successful businesses are steadfast in their values and attract employees who share those beliefs. The forest industry is small universe and relationships, trust, and integrity are prerequisite.

Why did you choose this field / career path?

Having been raised by parents who are both foresters, it was an easy career path for me to follow. I have always loved the outdoors and working in a profession that draws upon so many disciplines has been very rewarding. Foresters are stewards of the land and there is a tremendous sense of purpose that comes from caring for a resource that will benefit future generations.

What is one of the best lessons you’ve learned during your career?

Lessons learned early in life still hold true:  Do your homework. Show your work. Don’t take shortcuts. Be the best teammate you can be.
